(A sermon from 2002 that I preached in Marion, IN)

What does it mean to be faithful?

Two words could define what faithful means – Don’t quit!

Jesus did not quit! He hung in there until the end and it cost him his life.

Historical people who did not quit

Christopher Columbus - all thought world was flat he thought it was round and sailed off to show he was right against all people

Dream and goal and did not quit

Thomas Edison – Famous inventor but he did not have success come easily he had to try over and over after many failures but he succeeded and had many great inventions including the light bulb

Abraham Lincoln – He had much opposition and lost many election but he lived and died for an idea because he did not quit.

We are in a battle and against and enemy who is not of flesh and blood but of principalities and power. But the Bible say that he who is in us is greater than he who is in the world.

Our world has many people in it who have just quit when the trouble comes but we can stand strong in God and He will be with us

Acts 6:8-15

Acts 7:54-60

Stephen was a young man who did not quit but followed Jesus even when it cost him his life. The people who hate Jesus hated all he taught and all who taught what he taught.

Stephen could have quit and renounced Jesus and kept his life. But he did not quit and died for his belief in Jesus.

It takes faithfulness and character to stand up for Jesus. I does cost us to life for Jesus

Revelation 2:10 “Be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life”
