  Freedom in Christ
Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.

II Corinthians 3: 17

Freedom according to Webster is

A being free; esp., a) independence b) civil or political liberty c) exemption from an obligation, discomfort, etc d) a being able to act, use, etc. freely e) ease of movement f) frankness 2 a right or privilege.

The worlds view of Freedom

Freedom of speech – pornography, homosexuality is just an alternative lifestyle, TV
Freedom over our own bodies – abortion
Freedom in schools – killing God in schools, atheism, evolution, valueless teaching,
Freedom comes from the Government
Freedom from religious expression, not Christian expression

1 - The History of Liberty is a History of limitations of Governmental power, not the increase of it. When we resist, therefore, the concentration of Power, We are resisting the powers of Death, because the concentration of power is what always precedes the destruction of Human Liberties. – President Woodrow Wilson

Simply put, early Christianity was God at work in the Whole culture- Not merely in the Heart of Man.

2 – We have a country that is founded on Freedom, our soldiers have fought and died for Freedom but the freedom that we live in today is the freedom that is listed in the Constitution. Our founding fathers did not want freedom from God, freedom from life, freedom in Government. They fought for Freedom that gave us liberty not license!

In Christ we are free and have freedom but as Paul said in Romans

Romans 6:15
Shall we sin because we are not under law but under Grace? By no means!

You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness v. 18

But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves to God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life. v. 22

What is required for true freedom is to have the mind of Christ.
We must think and live the life of Christ.
We must have a transformation of our mind to that of Christ to have true freedom.
Not just think similar to that of Christ but a total transformation of the

You can not have true freedom with out the transformation of our mind.

The War on Terror and the Coming War with Islam
The Islamic invasion today is the greatest threat to Western Civilization since the Muslims were driven out in the 15th and 16th Centuries. They were driven out of Spain after capturing the Iberian Peninsula and moving in to France in the 8th Century. They were driven back out of France in the Battle of Tours but Charles Martel. They were stopped at the Gates of Vienna in 1563.

If in 1492 Spain had not driven the Muslims out or in 1563 defeating the Muslim hordes at the gates of Vienna had not happened we would be a Muslim world today. Yes the West has almost imploded upon itself several times with the 100 years war, WWI, WWII and other times but from outside the Christian West there has not been such peril here is today.

After lying silent and waiting Islam has slowly crept up on the West in the past 60 years. The West has forgotten its Christian Heritage and has embraced Socialism and forgotten how important faith and religion is to people. The West is so far removed from our Christian heritage that we forget that Islam is so antithetical to Christianity. Mohammed turned Christianity and Judaism on its head and turned religions of love in to religion of hate and perversion.

There are those Muslims who are peaceful and live in the modern world but studies say at least ten percent of Muslims are radical and believe that Shari`ah law should be forcefully imposed on the world. One third of the countries in the UN are Muslim nations that have banded together to impose their way upon the whole Body or blocking actions by the body. There are 1 billion Muslims in the world today, if ten percent of them are radical that is 100 million. I also think that fifty to seventy-five percent more are sympathetic to Radical Islam. So between one in five and one in ten people in the world want to bring Shari`ah law on the rest of the world and that should frighten the rest of the world. We need to understand that Shari`ah law will radical change all freedom we have and will force us to live under Islamic law and convert to Islam or face death.

What can we do? We need to realize that we are under attack daily, not only from the Socialist in our own country but from Islamist around the world. We then need to be vocal for traditional Christian values. We need to retake the education system from the socialist. There are a lot of good Christian teachers but with the Union and all Major state and private universities controlled by liberals we need to retake our schools. The minds of our children need us to recapture their teacher and education system.

Personal Peace & Affluence busted (at least for a While)
America has been living in the ideal of Personal Peace and Affluence for a long time. We do not want to become involved in the communities or our neighborhood. We have been driven by the PC crowd to be quiet. The Christian Right and the Right in America in general has polite and kept quiet. We have allowed the Left, the Socialists, and the Environmentalists to have a vocal voice and to take over areas of power in the United States. The Left and Socialists have taken over the Higher Education institutions, the Teachers Union, the Main Stream Media and the judicial branch of Government. The Right has been quiet and stood on the sidelines. The right is gentlemanly and will not try to interrupt or be “loud and proud”.
The right needs to get out of our Personal Peace and Affluence and stand up for our Right to speak up, the first amendment, and Free speech! The Left has been leading us down the path to a banana republic by trying to take the country by unfair elections like the communist Chavez in Venezuela. They have asked for monitors to come in an watch our elections like Georgia, not the one in the southern United States but the one South of Russia.
We need to get out of our lives of personal peace and get out of our comfort zone and make a difference. Our country needs good people to defend it. We have great people in the Military but we need good people here at home to defend our freedom against Socialist who want to change our way of life.

The Perversion of Rights in America
CNN Radio News had Dr. Sanja Gupta talking about how health care is a right of Americans. What a deception of Socialist it is that so many things are “rights”.
What kind of things? Protests, Speech (even when it is vulgar, exploitive or offensive), privacy, education, welfare, social security, FEMA, cheap drugs, internet, television, fairness, success and now health care. We live in a Nation that has come to expect the Government to take care of us from birth to death. We have come to expect the government to be there anytime anything happens to anyone. They have become our ultimate safety net. We have the right to have success in everything and when we have any failure or struggle whatsoever it is the government’s job to help us or lift us up.
That is Socialism. The government controls life from birth to death and takes care of the citizens. We have slipped into Socialism slowly and quietly. Wake up and fight it!

  VIGILANCE
I am not talking about voter fraud or anything to do with the election. We are so focused on the Election that we may become complacent to terrorism in the United States. We have been hit by hurricanes, been through a lot with this election but I think that we are becoming complacent. We need to keep our eyes open for anything suspicious not only for election fraud but for terrorist activities.
Al Qaida changed the election of Spain by bombing trains on March 11, 2004. Three days before the election they change the outcome from a pro-American Government to a Socialist government. We need to make sure that we are vigilant to stop any sort of attacks against us before the election.
We are vulnerable because the Radical Islamic Terrorists only have to be successful one time and the Dept. of Homeland security, FBI, CIA, Police, and Law Enforcement have to be right 100% of the time. This is our country also and we need to be diligent!!

  God is interested in YOU
God, the Creator, the Truth, the Provider is interested in everyone. Not just your spiritual life but all your life. God cares about all of your life from your work to your family to your health. God cares about your life even in the small areas like sleep patterns and emotions. God is a God of all things.
We as a society have tried to box God off to a “Church thing”. God is bigger, so much bigger than that. He can not fit into any box we try to put Him; He is really wants to be part of all your and my life! Many Christians try to use the church as a way to limit God in their lives. That is the Spiritual part of my life and nothing else. God is so much bigger than that. He is the Creator of all things, Sustainer of all things, Redeemer of all things and Lord of all things.
God is so interested in you that part of Himself, Jesus the Lamb of God and the second part of the Trinity, came and died a violent death for you. His blood was shed for the salvation of your sins. Sin came in through Adam & Eve and was forgiven once for all through Jesus.
God is interested in you!!

  The Divided Church
John 17:20-26 He loved us so much that even at the end of his walk here on earth 2000 years ago He prayed for us.

v. 22 “That they may be one as we are one”
v. 23 “May they be brought to complete unity.”

The Church today divided by denominations and denominational fights over doctrine and I know that it breaks God’s heart to see his Bride so divided. We here in this community need to break down the walls of denominations fighting realizing that we have different doctrine and different bodies and meeting places and work together to bring this community to Christ because if we are not unified as Christ prayed for us to be, the work is fragmented and harder.
The other division in our country today the also splits the churches is the division of race.
I go back to Martin Luther King Jr.’s “I have a dream speech”
to the last paragaraph
“When we let freedom ring, when we let it ring from every village and every hamlet, from every state and every city, we will be able to speed up that day when all God’s Children, black men and white men, Jews and Gentiles, Protestant and Catholics, will be able to join hands and sing the words of the old Negro spiritual, “Free at last! Free at last! Thank God Almighty, we are free at last!”

1Corinthians 3:1-9 - If we argue over

We are free in Christ, let us join as a united front against the evil one and stand firm in Christ knowing that the victory is ours.

We live in a great country with much to be thankful for and as Christians we need to be unified both demoninationally and racially in the Love of Christ to stand in our world today to make the difference to see His Kingdom advance into our dark world.

United we conqure, divided we fall.

From a sermon by our pastor

  Faithfulness

Faithfulness

(A sermon from 2002 that I preached in Marion, IN)

What does it mean to be faithful?

Two words could define what faithful means – Don’t quit!

Jesus did not quit! He hung in there until the end and it cost him his life.

Historical people who did not quit

Christopher Columbus - all thought world was flat he thought it was round and sailed off to show he was right against all people

Dream and goal and did not quit

Thomas Edison – Famous inventor but he did not have success come easily he had to try over and over after many failures but he succeeded and had many great inventions including the light bulb

Abraham Lincoln – He had much opposition and lost many election but he lived and died for an idea because he did not quit.

We are in a battle and against and enemy who is not of flesh and blood but of principalities and power. But the Bible say that he who is in us is greater than he who is in the world.

Our world has many people in it who have just quit when the trouble comes but we can stand strong in God and He will be with us

Acts 6:8-15

Acts 7:54-60

Stephen was a young man who did not quit but followed Jesus even when it cost him his life. The people who hate Jesus hated all he taught and all who taught what he taught.

Stephen could have quit and renounced Jesus and kept his life. But he did not quit and died for his belief in Jesus.

It takes faithfulness and character to stand up for Jesus. I does cost us to life for Jesus

Revelation 2:10 “Be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life”

  EU and Al Quada
A scary but I believe all to true article about what we face in our lifetime.

Why al-Qaeda Will Dominate the European Union

  Columbus Day in perspective
Today is Columbus Day. I think this holiday has become an unrecognized holiday because Columbus is not PC. Columbus came to North America and brought about a capturing of the Native population. That is not PC and he has been denigrated in the past 30 years. Columbus personally did not come for gold or riches he came for two reasons. Others may have had that motive but Columbus primary purpose was spreading Christianity. (Was it in the back of his mind, probably but he had other motives for going west, so did the Ferdidnad and Isabella) First he wanted to bring the gospel to new people and second to find a “Second front” to fight the Muslim invasion of the west.
Columbus was a Christian and that is not looked highly upon in the main stream today. Columbus wanted to share the Gospel of Jesus to new people. He looked to the East, including Japan, the East Indies and India which were not Christian. He knew what the East was like and wanted to share Jesus with them.
In 1492 Spain finally defeated the last Muslims and had freed the Iberian Peninsula. But the eastern part of Europe was still under Muslim control. Vienna was attacked by Muslims in 1653 so there was still a war between Muslims and Christian going on. Columbus was looking for a second front to attack the Muslims from the East so they would have to divide their resources. The trip around Africa was too long and treacherous to be a good way to go. Traveling west for a couple of weeks or months and arrive on the Eastern end of Muslim lands to open a second front would be much better.
So why do I a say this. Columbus was not PC because he was a Christian and was looking to share Jesus. But the unknown reason for his travels was in a religious war with Muslims and he was looking for a second front to attack from.
We are in a religious war today and our president is similar to Columbus because he opened a second front in the war by attack in the Middle East in Afghanistan and Iraq. We need to thank our president for defending us in this Religious war against the Muslims Fanatics and terrorist.

And Jesus said, " go your way. From now on sin”
Can you believe that Jesus said that? Well He did in John chapter 8. He told a woman to go and sin. I thought Jesus wanted righteousness and holiness not sin but He said it, so it must be true! Everything else I have heard about Jesus said that he did not want people to sin. It clearly says it right there in my Bible that Jesus told her to” go your way. From now on sin.”

I think you know that those words were not all he said to her. The real context of the passage is: “And she said, ‘No one, Lord.’ And Jesus said, ‘Neither do I condemn you; go your way. From now on sin no more.’” John 8:11(NASB). So he really did not tell her to sin he told her to sin no more. But out of Context it looks like Jesus is contradicting himself. It is all about context.

I was listening to my local radio stations news and it unfortunately is CNN. But in the same news segment I heard them take two reports out of context and make them major news. First the report on the VP debate they had Cheney blasting Edwards about him forgetting the Iraqi soldiers killed, but they did not say it was about the Iraqis or even use them in the clip they just had him saying that Edwards denigrated their loss and did not care. It sounded like he was saying that Edwards did not care any Americans had died but he was talking about the Iraqis not the Americans. Plus, in the same reporting they had this quote “Vioxx may not be the only arthritis drug to cause heart problems.”
Nothing else was said before or after it so where is the context for this statement?

I was reading Realpolitics.com and found the headline OP-ED by Paul Bremer and he had to defend his statements because they were taken out of context. The MSM may not lie but when you take things out of context you are lying all the same because the real truth is left on the editor’s desk and not reported to the public.

Even on a larger scale the Iraq war is being taken out of context. In the war on Terrorism the Iraq war makes sense but when you take it out of context it doesn’t. Out of Context the Iraq war looks like America being a bully but in the right context of the post 9/11 world it makes perfect sense.

CONTEXT is important. In the same way, you can not take your religious life out of context it has to be part or all your life and not just your Sunday morning ritual. It must be part of all your life!

An Unchanging God in an Ever-changing World

I wrote this in 1996 while I was pastoring at a church in Covington, Viginia. I wanted to get away from all the Politics for a little while.I thought this sermon was so appropriate for what was going on in our world today! So here it is, I know it is long but It is good and uplifiting.

An Unchanging God in an Ever-changing World

Hebrews 6: 13-20

1. Introduction

a. This is about the promise made to Abraham -descendants as great as the sand at the sea

b. Melchizedek - King and Priest of Jerusalem - Gen. 14:18-20

c. God is unchanging in keeping his promises!

2. What Changes

  • Life

  • People

  • Nations

  • Boarders

  • Investments

  • Leaders

  • Seasons

  • Wars

  • Cars

  • Businesses

  • Products

  • Children

  • Parents

  • Religions

  • Fads

  • Clothing fashions

  • and so much more.

We live in a changing world and everything around us is changing! At the end of time we will even be changed from perishable to imperishable, dishonor to glory, weakness to power, natural to spiritual, corruptible to incorruptible. Everything changes we live in a world where

  • In a split second a building in Oklahoma City is reduced to rubble,

  • Where peace treaties are signed and broken on the same day

  • Where promises are broken even before they are made

  • Heart attacks can take a persons life before they hit the floor

  • Where an assassins bullet change the destiny of a nation

  • Where a drunken drive can change or wipe out a family forever

  • The tale of Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny comes to in an end in a young person's life

  • Where a word spoken can never be taken back and change a relationship forever.

Change can bring confusion and hopelessness. We live in a world where there is no stability in a person’s life, especial a young persons life, confusion reigns.

The Generation X is the dying at the hands of each other at a rapid rate, with

  • Drive By shootings

  • Drugs and Drug related killings

  • Drunken Driving

  • Thrills and death is just part of the thrill

Suicide, Homicide and AIDS are the biggest killers of our kids because there is no hope. There is no hope because in a changing world there are no real absolutes given, everything is relative, to what you think of right and wrong is and if that is not what your friend or classmate thinks is right or wrong you had better watch out. With no absolutes there is no absolute Truth nothing unchanging because everything is changing

3. God Doesn’t Change

Our God is unchangeable and immutable. He makes promises and keeps them, He does not lie! He has power over creation and He kept the Sun from setting and the Days changing for Joshua, He brought the walls down at Jericho, He parted the Red Sea, and He raised Lazarus from the dead. He kept His promise to Abraham and he will keep his promises to you.

  • I will never leave you or forsake you - Heb. 13:5

  • I will be with you always even to the end of the age. - Matt. 28:20

  • Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God; trust also in me. In my Father’s house there are many rooms; if it were not so, I would have told you... John 14:1-2

  • He will give you another counselor to be with you forever, the Spirit of Truth - John 14:16-17

  • What is impossible with men is possible with God - Luke 18:27

God Makes promises he intends to keep because He has the Power to keep them because he is the creator of all things. He is a God who is unchanging no matter what he theologians or scientist or great minds of today would like to do with Him. He does not fit into a box that they try to put Him in or that we try to put Him in and he never will.

4. Standing firm on an unchanging God

In a changing world we need to stand firm on the reality that God is unchanging. We are in a battle every day with the battle raging on and our Enemy Satan looking like he is making much head way in our world and our country today.

But no matter how much how many battles we see Satan winning we need to STAND FAST in the promises of God and the assurance of His unchanging nature in our very changing world.

5. Hope and Application

In our world of change like a shifting sea God is our anchor (v 19) he is our rock and our foundation. He is the only solid structure we can build our lives on and be sure of the outcome and the end.

It may seem like everything is going against us or God has made a promise to us we do not see him keeping, like Abraham at 99 and Sarah at 90 giving birth to a baby. But stand fast in the promises and faith in Christ because He does not lie.

We are in a battle, against Satan and the change of our world can keep us on edge and unsure of what the future will hold. But we can stand fast on the Rock of Jesus with the Anchor of our life, God.

Simper Fidelis - Always Faithful.

We have an unchanging God in our Changing world, we as Christians need to take hold of Him!

  Church & Society
Exodus 20:5
"You shall not worship them or serve them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children, on the third and the fourth generations of those who hate Me, “

Can God be pleased with our nation and its moral decay? We have turned from God and worshiped Idols. Those idols are power, money, other gods, sex, leisure and so many things that distract or even divert us from worshiping God. God is not pleased when we do not acknowledge him with our minds and hearts.
The Church has been silent for too long. The Bride of Christ has been in on the worship of Idols too. She has been silent and sitting on the sidelines in the war for our country spiritually. The church has allowed the power of the state to usurp her rightful place in the welfare of the people. She has allowed the state to push God to the sidelines in the hearts and minds of the people.
The Church needs to retake her rightful place as the center of society. The government has it’s place but the church has it’s place. The government has a roll of security and laws but the Church has the responsibility of the spiritual welfare and the concerns of the poor. The Church has been kowtowed into a corner because the phase “Separation of Church and State” has been misused.
The Church needs to come out praying and become active. The hymn Onward Christian Soldiers is appropriate. The Bride of Christ needs to retake her rightful place in society.

  What has happened to America?
Our country was, until a 100 to 150 years ago, based on Biblical Christianity. We still have that foundation but there has been on philosophy creeping in year after year that has been spreading like a cancer across our Nation. This has been happening to Western Civilization but because of our deep foundation in the Bible I believe that it has been slower to happen to us in the USA.
This philosophy is Socialism. Socialism has been taking over in little areas, like questioning the creation of God with Darwinism or questioning the charity of the Church by pushing Government little by little on the citizens. Americans have been allowing the Socialist to implement their agenda. When God was removed from school about 50 years ago they won. They knew that they would just have to wait a generation or two and they would have removed God from the hearts and minds of most Americans. The Church has been weakened because we have not stood up for our Savior. The church has been made a separate part of people’s lives. The church had been center of a community and God had been the central part of life. People understood that God was important to all areas of life. Christians have allowed Socialism change people hearts to see a Sacred and a Secular. That is WRONG. All areas of life are God’s there is not a God part and a part without God. The Socialists have pushed God out of the mainstream.
Christians need to take back our schools! That is where the Church will win. The socialist have been winning because they took the schools 50 years ago. Many see abortion as the greatest issue. I think it is a horrible tragedy for our country but the Schools need to be first! The next generation needs to be won back to God and that will not only happen in the church but when God is allowed back into schools. That will be a tough feat though, there are many in the NEA, Department of Education, and the Courts who are Socialist in mindset.
The Church has become apathetic. Francis Schaffer put it as we have become most interested in Personal Peace and Affluence. The church is interested in only people’s hearts but has allowed society as a whole be contaminated by sin though the ideas of socialism. I blogged the 1963 agenda of the Communist and to look through that list shows me that the Marxist/Leninist have succeeded in most of their agenda even though their host country of Russia has “fallen”. The Marxist/Leninists have won even in their loss of apparent control of Russia and the Eastern Europe. The Marxist/Leninist have in Socialism have taken over their enemies, Western Europe and even the Democrat Party in America.
Our country is under attack from outside by Islamic Terrorist and from within by Socialism! We need to stand firm on our foundation of the Constitution as it was written not as the “Living Document” the Socialist like to interpret it.
